DYSERT O'DEA CROSS

The original of this 12 ft. high cross has the most striking carving in high relief. These carved figures represent the crucified Christ and underneath St. Tola, the patron saint of the town in which the cross stands. The Dysert cross, from the 12th century is the most imposing of the later ringless crosses.

THE HAPPY CROSS

This cross represents one of the earliest of the Irish crosses. Just one metre tall, this cross was originally a pre- Christian standing stone which was christianised in the 7th century by carving the form into a cross shape.

ST. PATRICK'S CROSS

Unique amongst Irish crosses this 12th century cross had two supporting columns on either side. There are figures on each side, St. Patrick on one, Christ on the other with outstretched arms and long robes. This cross is has been badly eroded but is still attractive, and it is in its present form that we bring it to you today.
