Simple Triskele

The Triskele, three joined spirals, is one of the oldest symbols in the world. It was first used by stone age people in Ireland, at Newgrange, 5000 years ago. The Celts adopted it when they came to Ireland 200 years before Christ and St. Patrick used it in the form of the shamrock, a uniquely Irish symbol, even today.

Corleck Head 100 b.c.

Heads feature repeatedly in Celtic Art and mythology, and the number three was believed to have magical significance. Thus a three faced head must have held great spiritual power. There is a hole in the base of the original, suggesting that it was set on a pole, on top of the hill where the head was found. It can see in all directions and was probably used to ward away evil. We have put the head on a swivel to retain its protective powers.

Ogham Pendant

The early Celts did not have a formal written language. However, Ogham is the most ancient form, coming as it does in the 1st. century A.D. It consisted of lines cut into the edge of a standing stone. They may have been used to mark the site of druidic or pagan places of worship.

Standing Stone Ring

Standing stone circles were probably used as places of worship by ancient people. Drombeg stone circle in beautiful and remote west Cork aligns with the setting sun on the Summer solstice. This is the nearest stone circle to our workshop so it seemed obvious to base our own standing stone ring on it.
